Columbia University Gaza Solidarity Encampment 2024

Since Wednesday, April 17th, 2024, Columbia University students have set up an encampment in solidarity with the ongoing genocide in Palestine and to advocate for the University’s divestment from Israel. Even with arrests, violence, and hatred, students and faculty are holding down the fort and refusing to leave without having their demands met. As a current graduate student in public health at Columbia and photographer, I am starting to document this and this will be an ongoing process.

Regrettably, on Tuesday night, April 30th, 2024, the NYPD raided the Columbia Gaza Solidarity Encampment along with Hind’s Hall, which is the student-reclaimed Hamilton Hall named after the six-year-old girl Hind Rajab, who was killed in Gaza City by IOF forces. Students and faculty alike were met with horrifying police brutality and arrested, while the encampment was taken down and thrown out like trash. Student press were also forced out so they could not record the violence. Nevertheless, the community remains strong and continues to advocate for Palestinian rights and divestment from entities that fuel the genocide. This is the end of my documentation on the encampment here at Columbia University.
